Piran, a picturesque town on the Slovenian Adriatic coast, captivates with its car-free old town and Venetian flair. Car
Thanks to a good highway connection, Piran can be reached comfortably. From the DACH region, you can travel via the Slovenian A1 highway to Koper. From there, the federal road 111 (H6/H5) leads directly along the coast, past Izola, until just before Piran. Please note the toll sticker (vignette) requirement for Slovenian highways. Since the old town of Piran is largely car-free, several convenient parking options are available on the outskirts of the town. Particularly recommended is the Amfora (Fornače) parking garage under the Bernardin Hill, which offers a direct connection via a free electric shuttle bus to Tartini Square. Alternatively, the Arze parking garage is located near the town cemetery, about a ten-minute walk from the center.
Airplane
Two international airports are ideal for a quick arrival. Trieste Airport (TRS) in Italy is the closest, at a distance of about 33 kilometers. A car ride or private transfer from there takes around one hour. Ljubljana Jože Pučnik Airport (LJU) in Slovenia is about 140 kilometers away. The travel time by car or private transfer from Ljubljana is around 1.5 to 2 hours, and flexible shuttle services are also available. For long-haul flights, arriving the day before with an overnight stay in the region is recommended to start your cruise relaxed.
Train
Piran itself does not have a train connection. Arrival by train leads you to the nearest larger train station in Koper. From there, excellent onward travel is available by bus: directly at Koper station, you will find a bus station with regular connections to Piran. The bus ride from Koper to Piran takes about 30 to 50 minutes, depending on the line. In addition, taxis and rental cars are available at Koper station for a quick onward journey.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
