Port information & tips for Brussels
Brussels, the versatile capital of Europe, welcomes travelers with a fascinating blend of magnificent history and modern urbanity. The city captivates with its unique flair and architectural diversity, ranging from Gothic masterpieces to forward-looking buildings. Unforgettable highlights include the magnificent Grand Place, the charming landmark Manneken Pis, and the impressive Atomium, while exclusive boutiques and world-famous chocolate shops invite visitors to indulge. Ships dock at the modern Brussels Cruise Terminal in the Neder-Over-Heembeek district, from where the vibrant center can be easily reached in just about 20 minutes thanks to excellent connections, while also offering an ideal starting point for individual discovery tours.
Brussels, Belgium's capital, is a popular starting point for river cruises on the Brussels-Scheldt Maritime Canal. The Brussels Cruise Terminal is located in the north of the city and is easily accessible, although it is situated away from the immediate city center.
Car
Arriving at the Brussels Cruise Terminal (Chaussée de Vilvorde 145, 1120 Brussels) is convenient thanks to the well-developed Belgian highway network. Brussels is excellently connected to the DACH region via major long-distance roads. Direct parking options at the terminal are limited, with around ten car parking spaces available. For longer stays, parking garages in Brussels are recommended, which can be booked in advance via providers such as Parclick or ParkBee.
Train
The central arrival station for international travelers is Brussels-Midi (Bruxelles-Midi/Brussel-Zuid), an important hub for ICE, Thalys, and Eurostar connections. From there, you can reach the cruise terminal by taxi in about 25-35 minutes. Alternatively, bus line 57 takes you directly to the "Pavillons Meudon" stop at the terminal, requiring a travel time of around 40-50 minutes. For exploring the city center, Brussels Central station is also an option, as it is located closer to the heart of the city.
Airplane
The nearest airport is Brussels Airport (BRU) in Zaventem, about 15-20 kilometers from the cruise terminal. Thanks to the short distance, you benefit from fast transfer options: a taxi takes about 20-30 minutes to the terminal, while public transportation (train to the central station, then bus or taxi) takes around 45-60 minutes. For a relaxed embarkation and the opportunity to explore the city beforehand, arriving the day before with an overnight stay in a Brussels hotel is recommended.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will usually receive a fixed check-in time slot with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.
The same applies during the cruise: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always check the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.

To make the most of your day in Brussels, we recommend focusing on the magnificent historic center and the iconic landmarks in the north of the city.
Grand-Place & Ilot Sacré
The Grand-Place impresses as one of the world's most beautiful market squares with its magnificent Baroque guild houses and is the perfect starting point for a stroll through the charming alleys of the historic core. In addition, the surrounding chocolatiers and cozy cafes invite you to experience the famous Belgian indulgence culture in an authentic atmosphere.
Atomium & Heysel-Park
The futuristic Atomium is the city's striking landmark and, thanks to its location in Heysel-Park, offers a fascinating view over the panorama of the Belgian metropolis. At the same time, the immediate proximity to the Mini-Europe park allows for a varied stay that is ideal for impressive souvenir photos and cultural discoveries.
Mont des Arts & Royal Quarter
The Kunstberg delights with its elegant park and one of the most beautiful views of the Brussels old town, while the adjacent museums are easily accessible for lovers of classic and modern art. This district combines stately architecture with a relaxed atmosphere and is perfectly suited for a high-quality cultural excursion thanks to its central location.
Place du Grand Sablon
The elegant Place du Grand Sablon is located just a short, approximately ten-minute walk from Brussels Central Station and is considered the premier district for connoisseurs and lovers of fine antiques. Here you will find the world's most renowned chocolatiers and can enjoy the first-class Belgian way of life in a historic setting in the charming cafés around the square. Thanks to its relaxed atmosphere and the magnificent architecture of the Church of Notre-Dame du Sablon, this location is perfect for a premium stay away from the busy main tourist paths. It is best to visit the Sablon in the late morning to stroll through the exclusive boutiques in peace, and plan a generous time buffer of at least two hours for your return journey to the ship if you are traveling back to Zeebrugge or Antwerp by train.
The return journey to the berth at Heembeekkaai can be planned in a relaxed and punctual manner thanks to the well-developed infrastructure of the Belgian capital. Plan around twenty minutes of travel time for the return journey from the center to be back on board well before departure.
Taxis and Rideshares
Available taxis can be found at central taxi ranks such as Place de l'Albertine directly near the Grand Place, as well as in front of the main railway station Gare Centrale and the large hotels in the city center. Give the driver Heembeekkaai as your destination, and you will reach the port terminal comfortably and directly within a short time.
Shuttle Buses and Public Transport
Many cruise lines provide their own shuttle buses, which usually depart near Gare Centrale and bring guests safely back to the ship. In addition, you can flexibly use bus line 57 from the North Station (Gare du Nord) or tram lines 3 and 7 to the Van Praet stop, from where you can reach the port area after a short walk.
On Foot
A walk back to the ship is particularly suitable from the direction of the Laeken district, as you can walk along the canal and through green parklands there. Since the path from the historic center to Heembeekkaai is around five kilometers long, this option is recommended for active guests with a sufficient time buffer for orientation along the water.
