Port information & tips for Positano

Positano is the vertical jewel of the Amalfi Coast and is considered one of Italy's most picturesque ports. The colorful houses cling to the steep cliffs above the azure sea and offer an incomparable flair thanks to narrow, flower-lined streets and exclusive boutiques. Visitors can discover the iconic church of Santa Maria Assunta with its gleaming majolica dome, relax on the famous Spiaggia Grande beach, and enjoy the Mediterranean lifestyle in the charming cafes of the old town. Since Positano is a tender port, cruise ships anchor in the picturesque bay while guests are comfortably transferred to the Molo di Positano. This central pier is located directly on the Spiaggia Grande, allowing travelers to reach the historic center and the town's famous stairways immediately.

Returning to the ship

Positano is a picturesque destination on the Amalfi Coast and typically serves as a tender port for cruise ships. Passengers are conveniently brought to the centrally located ferry port near the Marina Grande, from where the charming town can be explored on foot. Due to the long journey from the DACH region and the complex local traffic situation, a pre-cruise overnight stay in the region is recommended.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Naples International (NAP), approximately 58 to 65 kilometers from Positano. The driving time is about 80 minutes to 1 hour 18 minutes, depending on traffic conditions. For a relaxed transfer, private shuttles and taxis are available directly from the airport, bringing you comfortably to Positano without any transfers. A trip costs approximately between 150 and 170 euros for 1-3 people. Public transport requires several transfers, such as a bus to Naples main station and from there by train and ferry or another bus to Positano.

Train & Ferry

Travelers from the DACH region can travel comfortably by high-speed train to Salerno or Naples. From Naples Centrale, there is no direct train connection to Positano; instead, onward travel by regional train to Sorrento and then by bus or ferry is necessary. A more attractive option is often arrival via Salerno station. From there, you can reach the ferry port of Salerno within walking distance and enjoy a scenic ferry ride along the coast to Positano. The ferry from Salerno takes about 1 hour 15 minutes to Positano and simultaneously offers breathtaking views of the Amalfi Coast.

Private Transfer

Given the narrow streets, limited parking, and many steps in Positano, a private transfer is the most comfortable and stress-free option. Numerous providers offer a direct door-to-door service from Naples International (NAP) or Naples Centrale main station to your accommodation in Positano. These transfers, often in comfortable limousines or minivans, save you from juggling luggage and the challenges of public transport or searching for parking. The cost for a journey from Naples station to Positano is around 138 to 168 euros. It is highly recommended to book this service in advance to ensure a smooth start to your cruise.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that with your travel documents, you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time – depending on the cruise line and destination – is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
