Returning to the ship

Kotka, a charming port city in southern Finland, is located at the mouth of the Kymijoki and is easily accessible from the DACH region. Depending on their size and schedule, cruise ships dock either at the centrally located Kantasatama (City Port) or the industrial port of Mussalo, which is situated slightly further out.

Airplane

The nearest international airport is Helsinki-Vantaa (HEL), located approximately 110 to 130 kilometers west of Kotka. The journey from the airport to Kotka takes around 1.5 hours by car or taxi thanks to the well-developed E18 (Route 7). Private transfer services are available for a comfortable journey. Alternatively, bus lines such as OnniBus or Flixbus offer connections from the airport to Kotka; this journey takes about 3.5 to 4 hours with transfers and is more budget-friendly. For travelers from the DACH region, arriving the day before is recommended due to the longer flight and transfer times, ensuring a relaxed start to the cruise.

Car

Kotka is excellently connected to the Finnish road network, particularly via the E18 European route (National Road 7), which provides a direct link from Helsinki and Helsinki-Vantaa Airport. Parking is available in the port area. At Kantasatama, there are limited short-term parking spaces, for example along Keskuskatu, which are restricted to four hours. For long-term parking, especially for embarkation at the Mussalo terminal, availability and booking options should be checked through the HaminaKotka port authority or local providers. The entire region is pleasant to explore by car thanks to good roads and parking facilities.

Train

Kotka Port station (Kotkan satama) is conveniently located directly at the ferry terminal and therefore very close to the cruise berths. Direct train connections to Kouvola operate from here, taking about 30 to 40 minutes. In Kouvola, travelers can find connections to long-distance trains to major Finnish cities such as Helsinki and Lahti. Kotka main station is located only about 800 meters west of the Kotka Port station and is also easily accessible.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents will usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the latest announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
