Returning to the ship

Rosendal in the heart of the Hardangerfjord is a charming village that is easily accessible thanks to its picturesque location and central connection to the fjord. Smaller cruise ships dock directly in the village center, while larger ships use tenders, so guests always have a short distance to the sights.

Airplane

The nearest international airport is Bergen Flesland (BGO), around 55 to 67 kilometers from Rosendal. Direct flights from the DACH region land in Bergen, from where various transfer options are available. A convenient option is the combination of bus and ferry: for example, take the bus line 600 from the airport to the Osøyro Terminal and from there the ferry line 2075 directly to Rosendal båtkai. This connection takes about 2 hours and 40 minutes. Alternatively, a private transfer by taxi or rental car is available to reach Rosendal directly.

Car

Arriving with your own vehicle is a delightful way to explore the Norwegian landscape, but often includes ferry crossings. From Bergen, the route leads via the E16 and Fv48, including a ferry crossing from Gjermundshamn to Årsnes, and takes about 2.5 hours. In Rosendal itself, free parking is available, for example at the river near the town hall or at the soccer field, both just a few minutes' walk from the center and harbor.

Ferry from Bergen

A particularly scenic and relaxed way to arrive is the journey with the Hardangerfjord Express boat from Rødne departing from Bergen. From the Strandkaiterminal in Bergen, you can reach Rosendal in about 1 hour and 55 minutes. This express boat also offers a stop in Os, near Bergen Flesland Airport (BGO), connecting air travelers directly with the fjord. Thanks to comfortable seats and Wi-Fi on board, the crossing becomes a first impressive fjord experience. For longer flights, an overnight stay in Bergen before the ferry crossing is recommended to start your vacation relaxed.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always follow the current announcements and the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
