El Puerto de Santa María is a charming destination on the Bay of Cádiz that is generally easy to reach for cruise guests. While larger cruise ships mostly dock in nearby Cádiz, from where there is a convenient ferry connection to El Puerto, smaller expedition yachts can also moor directly at the commercial quay on the Guadalete River.

Car

Arriving by car is comfortable thanks to good transport links. You can reach El Puerto de Santa María directly via the Spanish national roads N-4 and N-340 as well as the A-4 motorway. Parking is available, among other places, at the Terminal Marítima, where daily parking is possible at a maximum rate of €10.00. In addition, the Interparking Centro in the heart of the city offers convenient parking spaces, including long-term options.

Train

El Puerto de Santa María has its own railway station (Estación RENFE), which is well integrated into the regional rail network. From here, there are direct connections to Jerez de la Frontera Airport (XRY) with a travel time of only about 15 to 16 minutes. El Puerto de Santa María is also easily accessible from Cádiz by train in about 23 to 35 minutes. The station is located close to the centre, so the city centre and the ferry terminal to Cádiz are within walking distance or reachable via a short taxi transfer.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Jerez de la Frontera Airport (XRY), located only about 21 to 30 kilometres from El Puerto de Santa María. It is served by various airlines, including some direct flights from Europe. From Jerez Airport, you can reach the El Puerto de Santa María railway station in just 15 to 16 minutes thanks to direct train connections. Alternatively, taxis and private transfer services are available to take you to your destination in about 30 minutes. For a relaxed arrival from the DACH region, it is recommended to plan a pre-cruise hotel stay in El Puerto de Santa María or Cádiz.

Bodegas Osborne

The world-famous Bodegas Osborne are centrally located in El Puerto de Santa María and can be easily reached from the port in a few minutes on foot or by taxi. A visit to this history-steeped estate offers you fascinating insights into traditional sherry production and also impresses with the imposing architecture of the extensive aging cellars. The facility is ideally suited for culturally interested connoisseurs and features stylish tasting areas as well as the excellent restaurant "Toro Tapas" for an authentic lunch break. It is best to plan your visit for the late morning to experience a guided tour in peace and return to the ship relaxed in the early afternoon.

Returning to the ship

The return journey to the port of El Puerto de Santa Maria is very relaxed and safe thanks to its central location and excellent infrastructure.

Taxi

Central taxi ranks can be found at the Plaza de las Galeras Reales directly on the riverbank, as well as at the city's railway station. Furthermore, renowned hotels such as the Monasterio de San Miguel or the Hotel Bodega Real always have vehicles ready to take you comfortably back to your ship within a few minutes.

Catamaran and Public Transport

If you have spent the day in neighboring Cádiz, the Bahía de Cádiz catamaran will take you back regularly to the Terminal Marítima in the heart of El Puerto. From there, you can reach the berths at the Muelle Exterior easily and punctually using the available shuttle buses or a short taxi ride.

On Foot

From the historic center and sights such as the Castillo de San Marcos castle, you can simply stroll along the Avenida de la Bajamar directly by the Guadalete river. Thanks to the clear signage and the lively waterfront promenade, the way is very easy to find and also offers a beautiful backdrop for the final part of your shore excursion.
