To experience the variety of the Wachau at its best, we recommend a combination of a relaxed stroll through town and a visit to one of the imposing historical monuments in the surrounding area.
Historische Altstadt & Stein
The Old Town, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, impresses with its medieval architecture and invites you to take a leisurely stroll through charming alleys thanks to its immediate proximity to the pier. In the district of Stein, you will also find idyllic squares and small cafes directly on the picturesque banks of the Danube.
Stift Göttweig
The magnificent Benedictine Abbey towers majestically over the river and is an ideal destination for culture lovers thanks to its Baroque splendor and the fantastic view over the vineyards. The picturesque Stein district is located directly at the ship pier and can be reached comfortably on foot in just a few minutes, making it the ideal destination for a relaxed shore excursion. Thanks to the perfectly preserved medieval facades and the charming cobblestone streets, you can experience the authentic atmosphere of the UNESCO World Heritage Wachau region in direct proximity to the ship. Numerous cozy Heurigen and cafés also invite you to taste regional wines, while the elevated Piaristenkirche offers a fantastic view over the Danube Valley. It is best to visit the old town directly in the morning to enjoy the special peace in the historic alleys, and return to the harbor quite relaxed about an hour before departure thanks to the short distances.
The way back from the Krems old town or the Kunstmeile to the port in Stein is short and leads through one of the most beautiful areas of the Wachau. You will reach your ship safely and punctually via well-maintained paths directly along the banks of the Danube.
On Foot
The walk from the Steiner Tor or the Kunstmeile Krems leads you easily via the Welterbeplatz back to the pier. Thanks to the flat and well-lit riverside promenade, you will enjoy a relaxed return and reach your ship in about 10 to 15 minutes.
City Bus and Public Transport
The Krems city bus line 1 connects the train station and the city center conveniently with the Krems Schiffsstation stop. The buses run at regular intervals and take you quickly directly to the vicinity of the piers, so you can fully enjoy your time in the city until shortly before departure.
Taxi
Taxis are available for a quick return journey at central points such as the station forecourt or near the Steiner Tor. In addition, the cafes and hotels in the pedestrian zone will be happy to call a car for you so that you can reach the port and your terminal comfortably within a few minutes.
