Returning to the ship

Akaroa is a picturesque cruise port on New Zealand's South Island and is easily accessible from the DACH region via Fly & Cruise. As a tender port, your ship will conveniently bring you by tender boat to the centrally located Main Wharf, from where the charming village can be easily explored on foot.

Airplane

The nearest international airport is Christchurch International Airport (CHC), which serves as the main gateway to the South Island. From major European cities, you can reach Christchurch with a connecting flight. The flight time from the DACH region is long, so arriving at least one day before embarkation is recommended.

Transfer & Shuttle

Akaroa is approximately 86 kilometers from Christchurch International Airport (CHC) and can be reached in about 1 hour and 30 minutes of travel time. You can use a private transfer that takes you directly to the port and costs about 159 Euro (257-267 NZD). Alternatively, the "Akaroa French Connection" bus connects Christchurch daily with Akaroa, although this requires a transfer from the airport to Christchurch city center. The entire bus journey takes about 3 hours to 3 hours and 46 minutes.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

For a relaxed start to your cruise, an overnight stay in a pre-cruise hotel is highly recommended. You can either choose a hotel in Christchurch to explore the city before your departure or book accommodation directly in Akaroa. This allows for a stress-free arrival and avoids time pressure on embarkation day after a long-haul flight. In Akaroa itself, you will also find public parking options, including free long-term parking for up to 8 hours at Gaiety Hall on Rue Jolie.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements and notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
