Port information & tips for Roseau
Roseau is the charming gateway to the "Nature Island" of Dominica and welcomes visitors with an authentic Caribbean soul. The capital impresses with its well-preserved Victorian architecture, lively markets, and close proximity to the lush rainforest that defines the exotic backdrop. Nearby, the Dominica Museum, the historic Old Market, and the magnificent Botanical Garden invite discovery and offer fascinating insights into local culture. Cruise ships dock at the Roseau Cruise Ship Berth, which is located directly in the center and provides guests with convenient, direct access to the colorful shopping streets and the picturesque waterfront promenade thanks to its ideal location.
The port of Roseau is located on the picturesque southwest coast of Dominica and welcomes cruise ships either directly at the central Roseau Cruise Ship Berth or at the Woodbridge Bay Terminal located to the north. Due to the geographical location, arrival from the DACH region is primarily by plane, followed by a transfer through the tropical interior of the island.
Airplane
Arrival from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland typically leads through Caribbean hubs such as Barbados (BGI), Antigua (ANU), or Sint Maarten (SXM), from where regional airlines fly to Douglas-Charles Airport (DOM). The airport is located about 50 kilometers northeast of Roseau, with a travel time of around 60 to 90 minutes via well-developed mountain roads, offering initial views of the island's untouched nature.
Transfer & Ferry
From Douglas-Charles Airport, you can comfortably reach the terminals in Roseau by licensed taxis or organized shuttle transfers provided by the cruise lines. Additionally, Roseau is excellently connected to the regional ferry network of L'Express des Îles, so travelers from the neighboring islands of Martinique, Guadeloupe, or St. Lucia arrive directly at the Ferry Terminal, which is located in the immediate vicinity of the cruise pier.
Pre-Cruise Hotel
Due to the longer travel time and connecting flights, arriving the day before is highly recommended to start the cruise in a relaxed manner. Hotels directly in Roseau or in nearby Castle Comfort also offer the advantage that the travel time to the ship on the day of embarkation is only a few minutes, while guests can simultaneously enjoy the local Creole culture.
Check-in & Embarkation
Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.
The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
