Cruise port Komodo

Port information & tips for Komodo

Komodo is a fascinating natural paradise in the Indonesian archipelago and an absolute highlight for adventurers and nature lovers. The island impresses with its untouched wilderness, dramatic hilly landscapes, and world-unique biodiversity set within a protected marine environment. Local attractions include the famous Komodo National Park with its legendary Komodo dragons, the dreamlike Pink Beach, and first-class snorkeling spots with colorful coral reefs. Returning to the ship

Komodo is not a typical cruise port, as ships cannot dock directly at Komodo Island. Instead, cruise ships anchor offshore, and guests are taken by tender boat to the Loh Liang pier, the main entrance to Komodo National Park. The nearby town of Labuan Bajo on Flores Island serves as the primary gateway for the region and offers all necessary tourist infrastructure.

Airplane

Travel from the DACH region typically involves a long-haul flight to Indonesia, for example via Jakarta (CGK) or Denpasar/Bali (DPS). From there, you can reach Komodo International Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo with a domestic flight, which takes about 1.5 hours from Bali and around 2.5 hours from Jakarta. There are now also direct flights to Labuan Bajo (LBJ) from international hubs such as Singapore (SIN) and Kuala Lumpur (KUL), which significantly shortens travel time.

Transfer & Local Arrival

Komodo International Airport (LBJ) in Labuan Bajo is only about 2 kilometers from the city center and the port, which means a short drive of about 10 to 15 minutes. Taxis and local drivers are available at the airport to take you comfortably to your hotel or directly to the harbor. Boats for shore excursions and transfers to the anchored cruise ships or directly to Komodo Island depart from Labuan Bajo harbor.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long international flight times and necessary domestic transfers, it is strongly recommended to arrive at least one day before the planned embarkation. This provides an important buffer for potential flight delays and allows for a relaxed start to your cruise. In Labuan Bajo, you will find numerous hotels, many of which offer free airport transfers and are conveniently located near the port.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed check-in time slot with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the journey: For shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.

Returning to the ship

The journey back to the ship is particularly safe and relaxed thanks to fixed tender times and the clear pathways at the Loh Liang pier.

Tender Boats (Shuttle)

The ship's own tender boats operate at short intervals between the Loh Liang pier and your cruise ship throughout your entire stay. Thanks to the central location of the landing stage, you can reach the meeting point for the return journey directly after your excursion and enjoy a calm crossing with panoramic views of the bay.

On Foot (National Park Grounds)

Within the National Park, you can walk safely on paved paths from the observation points back to the harbor area.
