Returning to the ship

The Thai dream island of Koh Samui is usually visited by cruise ships at anchor, with disembarkation by tender boat to the central piers in Nathon or Lipa Noi. Thanks to the well-developed infrastructure and the charming island airport, the journey for guests from the DACH region is straightforward and comfortable.

Airplane

Koh Samui Airport (USM) is considered one of the most beautiful airports in Asia and is the main hub for your arrival. As there are no direct connections from Europe, you can travel comfortably with a stopover in Bangkok (BKK), Singapore (SIN), or Hong Kong (HKG). From the airport, you can reach the tender piers in Nathon or Lipa Noi in about 45 to 60 minutes by taxi, minivan, or a pre-booked private transfer.

Ferry & Transfer

Should you combine your cruise with a stay on the Thai mainland, you can reach Nathon directly from the port of Donsak near Surat Thani using modern fast ferries from providers such as Lomprayah or Seatran Discovery. Surat Thani railway station is also an important hub for travelers arriving on the comfortable night train from Bangkok and then transferring directly to the port via a combined bus and ferry ticket.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long flight from Germany, Austria, or Switzerland and the time difference, arriving at least two days before embarkation is highly recommended. A stay in the regions of Bophut, Maenam, or directly in Nathon offers an ideal starting point to arrive relaxed and take advantage of the short distances to the pier on embarkation day. Many hotels on the island are prepared for cruise guests and organize reliable shuttle services to the tender piers.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the voyage: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the latest announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.

Songthaews and Taxis

The typical red shared taxis (Songthaews) circle the island on the ring road and stop directly at Nathon Pier; additionally, you will always find available private taxis at central locations such as Central Samui in Chaweng or in front of large resorts.
