Lyttelton serves as the modern maritime gateway to New Zealand's South Island and offers first-class infrastructure directly at the deep blue natural harbor with the specialized Christchurch Cruise Terminal. The port town is located approximately 12 kilometers southeast of Christchurch and is excellently connected to the regional transport network of the Canterbury region thanks to the Lyttelton Road Tunnel (State Highway 74).

Airplane

Christchurch International Airport (CHC) is located around 25 kilometers northwest of the port and is the central arrival point for international guests. Travelers from the DACH region reach the airport via hubs such as Singapore, Dubai, or Sydney and can get from there directly to the cruise terminal in Lyttelton within 35 to 45 minutes by taxi, rental car, or shuttle service.

Transfer & Shuttle

Arrival from Christchurch city center is very comfortable thanks to regular shuttle buses and private transfer providers. Additionally, public bus line 8 connects the central Bus Interchange in Christchurch directly through the tunnel with the port town, allowing guests to commute flexibly and independently between their ship and the city's cultural highlights.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long flight time and the significant time difference from Europe, we recommend arriving at least two days before embarkation. A stay in a hotel in downtown Christchurch allows for relaxed acclimatization and also offers the opportunity to explore the famous botanical gardens of the Garden City at leisure before the short trip to the port.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
