Taino Bay in Puerto Plata is a modern cruise port on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, which has been in operation since 2021. It was developed to accommodate up to three ships simultaneously and offers direct access to the historic city center of Puerto Plata as well as numerous amenities directly within the terminal area.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Gregorio Luperón International Airport (POP) in Puerto Plata, approximately 14 to 18 kilometers from the port. Direct or convenient connecting flights to POP are available from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, as the airport also offers direct flights to Europe. Thanks to the short distance to the port, the transfer after arrival is quick and comfortable.

Transfer & Shuttle

From POP airport, you can easily reach Taino Bay by taxi or with a private transfer. Numerous local providers such as Cocotours, Jahaziel Tours, and GO Airport Shuttle offer direct and reliable shuttle services to the cruise terminals. A trip usually takes only about 15 to 25 minutes. Taxis are also available on-site at the port, and free tuk-tuks operate from the pier to the terminal entrance.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long flight time from the DACH region, arriving at least one day before embarkation is highly recommended. In Puerto Plata and the surrounding area, you will find a good selection of hotels for a relaxed overnight stay before your cruise. Many accommodations are located just a few kilometers from the port and provide an ideal starting point for a stress-free start to your journey.

The golden Playa Dorada is located about fifteen minutes by car from Taino Bay and delights with its fine sand and calm, turquoise water. The first-class infrastructure on site offers comfortable sun loungers, umbrellas, and a selection of high-quality beach restaurants for an all-around relaxed stay. Thanks to the well-maintained grounds, this stretch of beach is ideal for sun worshippers and also invites you to enjoy refreshing swimming moments in the Atlantic. It is best to visit this section of the coast directly in the morning to make optimal use of the peaceful atmosphere, and plan your return to the ship about ninety minutes before departure.

Returning to the ship

The journey back to Taino Bay is particularly straightforward and relaxed thanks to its immediate proximity to the historic old town of Puerto Plata. Due to its central location, you will reach your ship on time and can also enjoy the maritime atmosphere while checking in.

On foot

Since the port gate of Taino Bay is only a few minutes' walk from the sights of the old town, you can easily stroll back to the entrance via Calle San Felipe. The path is well-guarded and easy to find thanks to clear signage and the ship's masts, which are visible from afar.

Taxi

Taxis are available at all times at central locations such as Parque Central (Plaza Independencia) and near the popular Umbrella Street (Calle de las Sombrillas). Official drivers will take you directly to the port entrance via a short route, and fixed rates ensure a safe and predictable return journey.

Port shuttle and Tuk-Tuks

As soon as you have entered the port grounds through the main gate, free Tuk-Tuks and shuttle vehicles are available for the remaining distance to the pier. This service takes you comfortably directly to the terminal building and also ensures a barrier-free and quick way back on board.
