Returning to the ship

The island of Lipari, the largest of the Aeolian Islands, is a gem in the Tyrrhenian Sea and is accessible exclusively by ferry or hydrofoil, as it does not have its own airport. The ferry port of Milazzo on Sicily usually serves as the main point of arrival. Cruise ships often dock at Marina Lunga, from where the island's capital, Lipari, can be easily reached on foot.

Airplane & Transfer to the Ferry Port

The nearest and best-connected airport is Catania Fontanarossa (CTA) on Sicily, approximately 135 kilometers from the ferry port of Milazzo. Direct flights from the DACH region are available; arriving the day before is recommended due to the onward journey. Convenient transfer options are available from Catania Airport to Milazzo: shuttle buses, for example from Flibco or Giuntabus, run several times a day and reach the port in about two hours. Alternatively, private taxi or shuttle services are available, which will take you to the Milazzo ferry port in around 1 hour and 40 minutes.

Arrival at the Milazzo Ferry Port & Parking

The ferry port of Milazzo is easily accessible thanks to good highway connections. Follow the A20 highway (Messina-Palermo) to the "Milazzo-Isole Eolie" exit, which leads you directly to the port. Secure short-term and long-term parking spaces are available at the port of Milazzo, which are very busy, especially during the high season. Booking in advance is strongly recommended. Providers such as "Garage Ferrari Milazzo" offer secure parking options, some with a shuttle service to the ferry terminals, just a few minutes' walk from the port. Please note that during the summer months, access restrictions may apply for cars not registered on Lipari; parking in Milazzo and renting a scooter or car on Lipari can be a good alternative.

Numerous ferries and fast hydrofoils operated by the shipping companies Liberty Lines and Siremar run from the ferry port of Milazzo to Lipari all year round. The crossing by hydrofoil takes between 1 hour 5 minutes and 2 hours 25 minutes, depending on the connection, while conventional ferries take about two hours.
