Arrival from the DACH region is usually by plane, and an overnight stay in advance is recommended due to the long flight time. The nearest airport is Eloy Alfaro International Airport (MEC) in Manta itself, located only about 3 kilometers from the port and accessible via domestic flights from Quito or Guayaquil. International flights usually lead via José Joaquín de Olmedo Airport (GYE) in Guayaquil, about 2-3 hours' drive away, or Mariscal Sucre International Airport (UIO) in Quito, from which direct flights to Manta take about 45 minutes.

Transfer to the Terminal

From Eloy Alfaro International Airport (MEC), you can easily reach the port by taxi in about 10-15 minutes, with costs typically around 5 US dollars. Many larger hotels in Manta also offer free shuttle services from the airport. For guests already in Manta, the port authority provides a free shuttle bus from the pier to the award-winning passenger terminal on cruise days, bridging the short 500-meter distance to the city center.

The city center as well as the popular Malecón Escénico promenade and Playa El Murciélago beach can be reached in about 10 to 15 minutes. The path is well-developed and offers direct access to numerous restaurants and shops.

Taxi

Official yellow taxis wait for visitors directly at the exit of the cruise terminal. These vehicles are ideal for comfortable trips to the Tarqui fish market or for excursions to nearby Montecristi, which is famous for its hand-woven Panama hats.

Montecristi

The picturesque town of Montecristi is located about thirty minutes' drive from the port of Manta and is a must-see highlight for those interested in culture as the birthplace of the legendary Panama hat. In the traditional workshops, you can observe experienced artisans during the intricate production of the famous hats and also find high-quality souvenirs directly at the source. Thanks to the central Plaza with its cozy cafés and the nearby Ciudad Alfaro monument, the town offers an authentic experience of the true Ecuadorian way of life, including magnificent views over the coastal region. Ideally, start your excursion in the early morning to fully enjoy the tranquility of the streets, and return to the ship for a relaxed end to the day no later than ninety minutes before departure.

Returning to the ship

The return journey to the Terminal Portuario de Manta is very comfortable and safe thanks to the port's central location. You can reach your ship from the city's most important sights in just a few minutes and end the day in a relaxed manner.

Taxi

Yellow taxis are ubiquitous in Manta and will take you directly back to the port entrance for a low fixed price. It is particularly easy to find a vehicle at the official stands of the Mall del Pacífico or directly in front of the Hotel Oro Verde at Playa Murciélago. Simply tell the driver "Terminal Portuario" and enjoy the short drive through the city center directly to the secured port area.

Port Shuttle and Bus

Since the way from the pier to the port exit is often long, the port authorities and cruise lines usually provide free shuttle buses that run regularly between the ship and the port gate. In addition, the central bus station is only a short drive away and many local lines stop directly on Avenida Malecón opposite the port. The friendly staff at the terminal entrance will be happy to show you the way to your shuttle so that you arrive on board on time.

On Foot

From the popular Playa Murciélago beach or the lively Malecón Escénico waterfront promenade, you can easily walk back to the terminal in about ten to fifteen minutes. The path leads along the well-frequented coastal road and is very easy to find thanks to its proximity to the Plaza Cívica. This area is regularly patrolled by security personnel and offers a lovely opportunity to enjoy the sea breeze on the last stretch back to the ship.
