Shimonoseki, a significant cruise port in Japan, is easily accessible for travelers from the DACH region. The terminals are located close to the city center, which allows for convenient arrival and exploration.

Airplane

The nearest major international airport is Fukuoka (FUK), located about 59 kilometers from Shimonoseki. From there, you can reach the port by train in about 55 minutes, with transfers in Hakata and Kokura. Additionally, private transfer options are available, enabling a direct journey to the cruise port in approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes. Alternatively, Yamaguchi-Ube Airport (UBJ) is located about 33 kilometers away, from which buses run to Shimonoseki Station in around 80 minutes. Due to the long journey from the DACH region, an overnight stay before the cruise is recommended.

Train

The central station for Shimonoseki is JR Shimonoseki Station, which is only about a 10-minute walk from the International Terminal. For travelers arriving by Shinkansen high-speed train, Shin-Shimonoseki Station is the relevant stop. From there, a short, approximately 9-minute regional train ride will take you directly to JR Shimonoseki Station. The well-developed Japanese rail network thus offers comfortable connections from major metropolises.

Pre-Cruise Hotel & Transfer

For a relaxed start to your cruise, we recommend arriving one day before embarkation and staying overnight in a hotel in the region. From Shimonoseki Station or hotels near the port, you can easily reach the cruise terminal with a short taxi transfer taking only about 5 minutes. From the Shimonoseki Cruise Terminal, you can reach the city's highlights and Shimonoseki Station in a very short time thanks to its central location.

On Foot

The city center and Shimonoseki Station are only about 10 to 15 minutes away on foot. A stroll along the waterfront promenade also leads you directly to popular shopping centers and offers wonderful views of the Kanmon Straits.

Sandem Bus (Public Buses)

The blue and white buses of the Sandem line run regularly between the port, the station, and the Karato tourist district. This connection allows for a comfortable journey to the famous Karato Market and the city's historical shrines.

Kanmon Ferry

From the nearby Karato Pier, the Kanmon Ferry takes you across the straits to Mojiko in just five minutes. This short crossing is a special experience and connects Shimonoseki directly with the historical sights on the opposite side of the island of Kyushu.

Karato District and Akama-Jingū

The charming Karato district is easily accessible from the port in about fifteen minutes on foot or a few minutes by taxi and perfectly combines culinary highlights with cultural depth. A visit to the famous Karato Market offers you a first-class opportunity to sample fresh sushi and the local specialty, Fugu, in a lively atmosphere right on the water, while the nearby Akama-Jingū Shrine fascinates with its striking architecture and historic seaside location. The well-maintained waterfront promenade is also ideal for a relaxed stroll and offers numerous small cafés with a wide view of the imposing Kanmon Bridge. Ideally, plan your excursion for the morning to experience the colorful hustle and bustle of the market in its full glory and stroll back to your ship at your leisure in the early afternoon.

Returning to the ship

The way back to the Port of Shimonoseki is very comfortable and safe thanks to its central location and excellent infrastructure. You can reach your ship on time from all major sights such as the Karato Market or the Akama Shrine.

Taxi

In Shimonoseki, you will find taxi stands directly at Shimonoseki Station as well as in front of the lively Karato Market and at the city's major hotels. The drivers are known for their politeness and will take you reliably to the harbor terminal or Aruka Pier within a few minutes thanks to the short distances.

Bus and Shuttle

The blue buses of the Sanden Kotsu company connect the tourist highlights in the harbor district directly with the central station. In addition, organized shuttle buses are available for many arrivals, which take you comfortably from the station forecourt or from central meeting points back to check-in, ensuring a stress-free return journey.

On Foot

From the Karato district and the waterfront promenade, a flat and well-maintained footpath leads along the water directly back to the berth. On this walk, you can enjoy the view of the Kanmon Strait and easily find your way by looking for the widely visible Kaikyo Yume Tower, which shows you the way to the port.
