Returning to the ship

Siglufjörður is a picturesque, remote cruise port in Northern Iceland, offering an unforgettable sight thanks to its unique location in a narrow fjord. Smaller cruise ships dock directly at the centrally located main pier, from where the charming town center and attractions like the Herring Era Museum are easily accessible on foot. Larger ships use tender transfers to bring guests ashore when necessary.

Airplane

Travel from the DACH region typically takes place via Keflavík International Airport (KEF) near Reykjavík. From there, a short domestic flight (approx. 45 minutes) from Reykjavík Domestic Airport (RKV) to Akureyri Airport (AEY), the closest major airport to Siglufjörður, is recommended. Akureyri Airport (AEY) is located approximately 65 to 81 kilometers from Siglufjörður. Given the total travel time, it is advisable to choose a flight that allows sufficient time for the transfer to the ship or to plan an overnight stay in Reykjavík or Akureyri.

Rental Car

For maximum flexibility and to explore the breathtaking landscape of Northern Iceland, a rental car is the ideal choice. From Keflavík International Airport (KEF), the route leads via the Ring Road (Route 1) and later via the scenic roads 82 and 76 directly to Siglufjörður. Plan for a driving time of about 5 to 6 hours for this route (approx. 425-441 km). From Akureyri Airport (AEY), you can reach Siglufjörður via roads 82 and 76 in about 1 hour to 1 hour 15 minutes (approx. 65-81 km), passing through fascinating tunnels that connect the communities year-round. Public parking is available in Siglufjörður.

Bus & Pre-Cruise Stay

A convenient option from Akureyri is to use the public bus system Strætó. Bus line 78 runs several times a day from the Hof Cultural Center in Akureyri or directly from Akureyri Airport to the Siglufjörður - Olís bus station. The journey takes about 1 hour 16 minutes to 1 hour 23 minutes. Due to the long journey from Central Europe, a relaxed arrival with a pre-cruise overnight stay in Reykjavík or Akureyri is recommended, especially for those flying. This allows for a stress-free start to your cruise and offers the opportunity to discover more of Iceland's highlights.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will generally receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port and bear in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually about one hour before the scheduled departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the latest announcements and the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.
