Returning to the ship

The Utría National Park in Colombia is a unique natural paradise, primarily reached by plane followed by a boat trip. Direct travel by car or train is not possible due to the dense jungle landscape and lack of infrastructure. Cruises to the national park are typically expedition trips, making it advisable to arrive at least one day before embarkation for a relaxed start.

Airplane

For guests from the DACH region, the journey usually involves an international flight to Bogotá (BOG) or Medellín (MDE/JMC) in Colombia. From there, domestic flights continue to the regional airports of José Celestino Mutis (BSC) in Bahía Solano or Reyes Murillo (NQU) in Nuquí. Satena is one of the airlines serving these routes. The flight over the impressive landscape of Chocó is an experience in itself.

Transfer & Shuttle

After landing in Bahía Solano (BSC) or Nuquí (NQU), the transfer to Utría National Park takes place exclusively by boat (Lancha). The travel time is approximately 30 to 50 minutes from Bahía Solano or Nuquí to the park entrance. Local providers and tour guides organize these boat trips, which can often be coordinated directly with the cruise line or a local eco-lodge operator. In the main town of Ciudad Mutis (Bahía Solano), tuk-tuks or local taxis take travelers from the airport to the boat pier.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long journey and necessary connecting flights and boat transfers, it is strongly recommended to spend at least one night in Bahía Solano or Nuquí before the scheduled embarkation. This allows for relaxed acclimatization and ensures a punctual start to the cruise. Various accommodation options are available in Bahía Solano, which are often also helpful in organizing boat transfers to the national park.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and consider that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The following also applies during the trip: For shore excursions, you should be back on board no later than one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
