Returning to the ship

Ferradosa, a picturesque village in the heart of the UNESCO World Heritage Douro Valley, is a popular destination and focal point for river cruises in Portugal. As an idyllic spot to experience the terraced vineyards and the impressive river landscape, it is primarily a location for shore excursions or a smaller mooring stop. However, Douro cruises usually start and end in the larger city of Porto, from where the journey into the valley takes place.

Airplane

The nearest international airport for your Douro cruise is Francisco Sá Carneiro Airport (OPO) in Porto, which is served by direct flights from many cities in the DACH region. It is located approximately 188 kilometers from Ferradosa. From Porto Airport, you can easily reach the city center or Campanhã station by metro, from where further travel options into the Douro Valley are available. Due to the travel and transfer time into the Douro Valley, we recommend an overnight stay in Porto on the day before embarkation for a relaxed start to your cruise.

Train

Ferradosa has its own train station, Estação Ferroviária de Ferradosa, which is located on the scenic Douro line. You can reach Ferradosa directly by train from Porto; a journey from Porto São Bento or Campanhã takes about 2 hours and 53 minutes. From Ferradosa station, the pier (Cais da Ferradosa) is usually easily accessible on foot in about 15 minutes.

Car

For those arriving by car, the route first leads via the Portuguese motorway network, for example via the A4 from Porto towards Vila Real or the A24, which connects the regions. From the larger towns in the Douro Valley, such as Peso da Régua or Pinhão, the famous EN222 panoramic road leads directly through the valley to Ferradosa. Direct long-term parking options specifically for cruise passengers in Ferradosa are limited due to the size of the village. For long-term parking and transfer to the ship, Park & Cruise offers or hotels in the larger embarkation ports such as Porto are therefore recommended.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is mandatory for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for your journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the trip: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements and notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
