Returning to the ship

The port of Praia on the island of Graciosa offers a charming and relaxed starting point for your Azores cruise. As part of the archipelago, arrival is optimally integrated into the regional transport network, allowing for a comfortable onward journey.

Airplane

Your journey from the DACH region first takes you to one of the larger Azores airports, such as Ponta Delgada (PDL) on São Miguel or Lajes (TER) on Terceira, which you can reach from Lisbon. From there, SATA Air Açores operates daily connecting flights to Graciosa Airport (GRW), located just about 2 kilometers west of Santa Cruz da Graciosa, the island's capital. It is advisable to book these inter-island flights early to ensure a smooth transition.

Ferry

The port of Praia da Graciosa is an important ferry hub, connecting Graciosa with the other islands of the central group via Atlanticoline. There are regular, though not daily, connections to islands such as Terceira (Praia da Vitória, Angra do Heroísmo), Faial (Horta), Pico (Madalena, São Roque), and São Jorge (Velas), with a travel time of about 3.5 hours to Terceira. Please note that rental cars are usually not allowed on the ferries, and you will need a new rental car on the next island.

Local Transfers & Pre-Cruise Stay

Graciosa Airport (GRW) has a small, clearly laid-out terminal that allows for easy orientation. Taxis are available for transfers to the port of Praia or your accommodation; a trip from Santa Cruz da Graciosa to the airport, for example, takes only about 4 minutes and costs around 7 to 10 euros. Due to the necessary connecting flights and the fact that ferry connections are not always daily, a relaxed pre-cruise stay of at least one night on Graciosa is recommended. This way, you can start your cruise well-rested and stress-free. Numerous charming guesthouses and the Graciosa Resort & Business Hotel are available for this purpose.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and keep in mind that the latest embarkation time—depending on the cruise line and destination—is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always pay attention to the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as mooring and departure times can change at short notice.
