Aomori is the charming prefectural capital at the northern tip of Japan's main island Honshu and a fascinating gateway to the culturally rich Tohoku region. The city delights with its maritime location on Mutsu Bay and a harmonious blend of striking architecture and deep-rooted traditions. The Port of Aomori at the northern tip of the main island of Honshu impresses with its excellent connection to the Japanese transport network and its immediate proximity to the city center. Cruise ships usually dock at the central Shin-Chuo Pier or, in the case of larger ship units, at the Okidate Wharf, which is about three kilometers away.

Airplane

Aomori Airport (AOJ) is located around 15 kilometers south of the port and is served several times daily from the Tokyo airports Haneda (HND) and Narita (NRT), which represents a convenient connecting flight for guests from the DACH region after their long-haul flight. From the airport, you can reach the terminals in about 35 minutes by taxi, with inexpensive fixed rates often offered for the direct journey to the ship.

Train

Arriving by the legendary Shinkansen high-speed train offers a comfortable way to enjoy the Japanese landscape and leads directly to Shin-Aomori Station. From there, thanks to the good connections, you can reach the International Cruise Terminal in around 10 to 15 minutes by taxi or use the local train for the short onward journey to the central Aomori Station, which is within walking distance of the inner-city berths.

Pre-Cruise Hotel & Transfer

Due to the time difference and the long flight duration from Europe, arriving the day before is highly recommended to start your holiday in a relaxed manner. Numerous high-quality hotels in Aomori city center are located in direct proximity to the striking, pyramid-shaped ASPAM building and the port, so that on embarkation day you benefit from short distances to the terminal and uncomplicated luggage drop-off.

Please note that your travel documents usually include a fixed time slot for check-in, which is binding for your embarkation. From the central Shin-Chuo berth, you can reach Aomori Station and important sights in about ten to fifteen minutes. The path leads along the attractive waterfront promenade and provides direct access to the Nebuta Museum WA RASSE as well as the striking ASPAM building.

Taxi

Numerous taxis wait for passengers directly in front of the port building and offer a fast connection to destinations in the immediate vicinity. This service is ideal for comfortable trips to Sannai-Maruyama Park or other cultural sites and simultaneously guarantees an uncomplicated return to the ship.

Nebuta-go Sightseeing Bus

The local Nebuta-go bus operates on a special route between the most important tourist points and stops in convenient proximity to the port. Additionally, the nearby Aomori Station offers easy connections to the city bus network as well as regional trains for further exploration of the surrounding area.

Right next door is the modern A-Factory, which is perfect for a delightful break with local apple specialties and high-quality arts and crafts. In addition, you can enjoy a wonderful atmosphere and a wide view over the Bay of Aomori on the well-maintained waterfront promenade. Ideally, start your visit in the morning to experience the exhibitions in peace and quiet, and end your excursion with a relaxed stroll in good time before the ship sets sail.

Returning to the ship

The return journey to Aomori Port is particularly straightforward thanks to the central location of the piers and the city's excellent infrastructure. Simply allow a short amount of time for the security check at the pier to ensure a relaxed return on board.

On Foot

From main attractions such as the Nebuta Museum Wa Rasse or A-Factory, you can enjoy a comfortable walk of just a few minutes back to Shin-Chuo Pier. The path is flat and offers excellent orientation right in the city center, thanks to the striking architecture of the port building and its direct waterfront location.

Shuttle Bus and Public Transport

For docking points like the slightly more distant Okidate Wharf, regular shuttle buses run directly from the East Exit of Aomori Station. Additionally, local bus lines will bring you reliably to the port area, ensuring a relaxed return in time for your ship's departure.

Taxi

You will find numerous taxi ranks at Aomori Station, as well as at central locations downtown and in front of major hotels like Hotel JAL City. The drivers are very service-oriented and, thanks to their local knowledge, will take you via the fastest route directly to the check-in of your respective cruise terminal.
