Another option is Cologne/Bonn Airport (CGN), which is about 87 kilometers away and can be reached by train in approximately 2 hours and 22 minutes. The late Staufer Burg Lahneck towers majestically over the confluence of the Lahn and the Rhine and is easily accessible from the port via a twenty-minute uphill walk or a short taxi ride. This impressive fortress offers fascinating insights into medieval history and a wide panoramic view over the UNESCO World Heritage Upper Middle Rhine Valley to the opposite Schloss Stolzenfels. Thanks to the charming castle gastronomy with its inviting viewing terrace, you can also enjoy a relaxed break with regional delicacies and cool drinks here. Ideally, visit the castle in the morning to fully enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the grounds and plan your return to the ship about sixty minutes before departure.
The way back to the ship berths in Lahnstein is particularly relaxed and safe, thanks to the compact city structure and excellent signage.
Taxi
Taxi ranks can be found directly at the Oberlahnstein and Niederlahnstein stations, as well as in front of larger hotels such as the Wyndham Garden Lahnstein am Kurpark. Thanks to the short distances within the city, you can reach the berths on the banks of the Rhine or at the mouth of the Lahn comfortably and on time within a few minutes.
Bus and Train
Local bus lines connect the various districts and take you directly to stops near the Rhine and Lahn facilities. In addition, regional trains between the stations offer a fast connection, and the stations are so centrally located that you can easily and comfortably cover the last few meters to the berth on foot.
On Foot
The promenades along the Rhine and the Lahn are excellently developed and provide ideal orientation directly back to the ship. Thanks to visible landmarks such as Burg Lahneck and clear signage, you will find your way back to your cruise ship safely and easily from the old town or from Salhofplatz.
