Returning to the ship

Lifou, part of the Loyalty Islands, is a paradise in the South Pacific and is mostly visited as part of cruises from Australia or Nouméa. Access for guests typically occurs via the tender port in the picturesque Bay of Easo, which provides direct access to white sand beaches and local sights.

Airplane

Travel from the DACH region is via long-haul connections to Nouméa-La Tontouta International Airport (NOU), usually with stopovers in Singapore or Tokyo. From Magenta Regional Airport (GEA) in Nouméa, you can reach Lifou Airport (LIF) with Air Calédonie in a flight time of about 40 minutes and from there reach the port area in Easo in around 20 minutes by shuttle or taxi.

Transfer & Ferry

A maritime alternative for arrival is provided by the high-speed ferry Betico 2, which runs regularly between the Port of Nouméa and the Port of Wé on Lifou. The crossing takes approximately five to six hours and offers travelers the opportunity to enjoy the island world of New Caledonia from the water during the journey and arrive relaxed at their destination.

Pre-Cruise Hotel

Due to the long distance and the time difference, a stay of at least two days in Nouméa or directly on Lifou is recommended before the planned boarding. Local accommodations and bungalow complexes near the Bay of Easo allow for a stress-free start to the cruise and also offer the opportunity to explore Polynesian culture and nature without time pressure.

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for the journey to the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is generally scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The same applies during the journey: for shore excursions, you should be back on board at least one hour before departure. Always observe the current announcements as well as the notices on board, as docking and departure times can change at short notice.

Useful tips

Baie de Jinek

The Baie de Jinek, often praised as New Caledonia's "natural aquarium," is easily accessible from the pier in Easo in about fifteen minutes on foot and offers an incomparable snorkeling experience in perfectly clear, turquoise water. Thanks to its protected location and the spectacular variety of tropical fish and intact corals, this spot is ideal for a relaxed encounter with nature, while installed stairs facilitate entry into the sea. Since access is limited to a certain number of guests per day to protect the environment, it is best to secure your wristband for entry directly in the morning at the quay and then enjoy the colorful hustle and bustle as well as the local delicacies at the adjacent market at the harbor. To ensure a stress-free conclusion to your shore excursion, plan your return to the tender boat about one hour before the last departure.
