The island enchants visitors with its untouched cliffs, blooming landscapes, and an almost magical tranquility that, thanks to its original atmosphere, immediately transports you to another time. Highlights include the magnificent gardens of La Seigneurie, the spectacular ridge La Coupée with breathtaking views, and the charming main street "The Avenue". Since Sark does not have a deep-water port, guests arrive at Maseline Harbour by tender boat. From there, a short path leads up to the village center, where the famous tractor bus "Toast Rack" makes the ascent comfortable and at the same time an unforgettable experience.

Sark (Guernsey) is a unique and largely car-free Channel Island that is not directly visited by large cruise ships. Arrival for cruise guests usually takes place via the neighboring island of Guernsey, from where smaller ferries run to Maseline Harbour on Sark. Often, passengers are also brought ashore by tender boat from cruise ships anchored off Sark.

Airplane

The nearest airport is Guernsey Airport (GCI), which is served by various British airports such as London Gatwick, Southampton, or Manchester. From Germany, connecting flights are often required, for example via London. From Guernsey Airport, you can easily reach the ferry port of St. Peter Port, which is about 22 kilometers away, by taxi or bus. The journey time from the airport to the ferry terminal in St. Peter Port is approximately 15-20 minutes by taxi.

Ferry

The main way to reach Sark is by ferry from Guernsey. The Isle of Sark Shipping Company operates a regular passenger and freight service between St. Peter Port on Guernsey and Maseline Harbour on Sark. The crossing takes about 45 to 55 minutes and is offered several times a day in high season, with a reduced schedule in winter. It is advisable to book ferry tickets in advance, especially in the summer months. Alternatively, there are seasonal ferry connections from Jersey to Sark, operated by Manche Iles Express. Please note that no car ferries run to Sark, as the island is car-free.

Pre-Cruise Hotel (on Guernsey)

Given the ferry connection and the car-free character of Sark, an overnight stay on Guernsey is recommended before embarkation or a day trip to Sark. In the main town of St. Peter Port, you will find numerous hotels near the ferry port. Some hotels, such as the Best Western Moores Hotel, are only a 10-minute walk from the Condor Ferries Terminal in St. Peter Port. For arrival at the ferry terminal in St. Peter Port by car, there are short- and long-term parking spaces within walking distance of the port, with the largest parking facilities located in the North Beach area. Parking on Guernsey is mostly free of charge, but a parking disc is required in "Disc Zones".

Check-in & Embarkation

Please note that you will usually receive a fixed time slot for check-in with your travel documents, which is binding for your embarkation. Plan sufficient time for arrival at the port accordingly and take into account that the latest embarkation time - depending on the cruise line and destination area - is usually scheduled about one hour before the planned departure.

The famous Toast Rack awaits you directly at the end of the harbor tunnel. This covered wagon pulled by a tractor takes guests comfortably up Harbour Hill to the center and provides an original start to the day at the same time.

Horse-drawn carriages

Traditional horse-drawn carriages are available for a particularly stylish exploration of the island. These wait near the harbor or in the village center and offer you the opportunity to discover the picturesque landscape at a pleasant pace and with expert explanations from the drivers.

On foot

The village center can be reached on foot via a steadily ascending path. The walk takes about 10 to 15 minutes and, thanks to the elevated position, rewards you with initial wide views over the coastline and the sea along the way.

The magnificent La Seigneurie Gardens are easily accessible from the harbor after a short ride on the charming tractor shuttle to the village followed by a relaxed walk of about fifteen minutes. This award-winning site is considered one of the most beautiful garden ensembles in Europe and offers fascinating insights into the island's feudal history alongside an impressive variety of plants. Thanks to the first-class "Hathaways Café & Restaurant" directly on site, you can also enjoy high-quality refreshments and local specialties in an idyllic atmosphere. Ideally, visit the gardens in the morning to experience the peaceful silence of nature to the fullest, and return to the village in good time to stroll leisurely through the small, car-free lanes before the tender ride back to the ship.

Returning to the ship

Sark is a car-free island, which makes the way back to Maseline Harbour particularly relaxed and close to nature. Thanks to the well-organized local means of transport, you will reach your tender ship on time and stress-free.

Tractor-Bus (Toast Rack)

The famous Toast Rack tractor-bus shuttles regularly between the village center at the top of the hill and Maseline Harbour. You will find the stop directly at the top of Harbour Hill and can comfortably begin the short journey down.

Horse-drawn Carriages and Bicycles

For a stylish return journey, horse-drawn carriages are available at the Avenue in the village center, which will chauffeur you directly to the harbor plateau. If you have explored the island by bike, simply return it to the rental shops in town and walk the last stretch to the ship.

On Foot

From the village center, a well-paved path leads over Harbour Hill directly down to the pier. Since the route is steadily downhill, you will reach Maseline Harbour in about 15 minutes and also enjoy a wonderful view of the coast.
